Signs of endings

On the first Sunday of Advent my parish sang signs of endings all around us, a hymn you can find yourself in the Wonder, Love and Praise hymnal. While the first verse of the hymn is pretty bleak, it goes on to wonder if new beginnings spring from our endings, and asks God to speak a word to us while we wait. I’m here to tell you that God has spoken this year, and powerfully, and through you.

As I write this I’m sitting in the pre-dawn stillness of my living room and looking back through every communication I’ve sent you this year. My word! What a year you all have had. I’ve created and shared a short video below, outlining the miles we have traveled together, the hope we have shared, and the tremendous work we’ve all done to stay nimble and faithful in a world that feels brittle and sad.

I am looking very forward to 2025, and to seeing many of you at our Gatherings. If you haven’t registered already, I would encourage you to take a look before 2025 rushes in and knocks you off your feet! Schedule time for yourself to be with your peers, a time of learning, renewal, and rest. And in the meantime, I wish you a blessed Advent and a very merry Christmas. As the hymn says, give us hope and faith and gladness, show us what there yet can be.
